About this opportunity
The Brendan Curley Memorial Award honors the memory of Brendan Curley, a respected lawyer, community leader, and advocate for education who passed away in 2011. This award recognizes outstanding academic achievement in History at the University of Prince Edward Island. The Gold award is presented to a student entering the fourth year of a History degree who has attained the highest cumulative mark in the department's core courses: HIS 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020, 2110 and 3120. A Silver award is granted to the second highest student with the same core courses. Brendan Curley was born in Brudenell, Prince Edward Island and graduated from Acadia University and Dalhousie Law School. He practiced law in Charlottetown for over twenty years and was deeply committed to community service, serving as President of Charlottetown Minor Hockey and Big Brothers Big Sisters of PEI. He had a passion for politics and public policy and was a strong supporter of UPEI, particularly proud of the education his sons received as history majors in the Faculty of Arts.
