About This Opportunity

The Bruce A Pontin Memorial Scholarship provides support to students studying piano or organ at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Established in 2014 from the Estate of late Edna Pontin, this scholarship assists young students who exhibit excellence in piano or organ to further their music studies and performance skills. The scholarship is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including coursework and research degree candidates. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit, personal statement, demonstrated evidence of disadvantage, and/or portfolio and performance. For postgraduate research applicants, research achievements and potential may also be considered. Preference is given to applicants with financial disadvantage and to applicants who are 20 years of age or less. The scholarship value and duration are determined by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and will be stipulated in the offer letter to successful recipients. For coursework students, payment is made in two equal instalments per year after census dates. For postgraduate research students, the value is paid as a stipend on a fortnightly basis. This scholarship is offered as either a merit or equity scholarship. Merit-based scholarships require no application as students are automatically considered as part of their admission application. For equity scholarships, students must apply separately when applications are open, typically in February for Semester 1.
