About this opportunity
The Bruce James Dewar Memorial Scholarship is granted to a graduate student registered in the first two years of a Masters or first three years of a PhD at the University of Prince Edward Island, with a focus on biochemistry or environmental sciences. The recipient must demonstrate superior academic performance through the final years of their undergraduate degree and during their current graduate studies, as well as superior research potential through a letter from the student describing their research interests. This scholarship was established by Marylou Hughes in memory of Bruce James Dewar, son of her dear friends Edgar and Brenda Dewar. Bruce graduated from Dalhousie University in biochemistry in 1995 and pursued a career in Environmental Remediation with companies in Alberta. His work focused on ensuring farmlands used by oil companies were returned to good or better crop production. Bruce was adamant about using natural resources with great care and had enthusiasm for medical research. The scholarship reflects his life-long commitment to environmental stewardship and scientific excellence.
