About this opportunity

The BSSw Fellowship Program fosters and promotes practices, processes, and tools to improve developer productivity and software sustainability of scientific codes. BSSw Fellows are selected annually based on an application process that includes the proposal of a funded activity that promotes better scientific software through a publicly available artifact. Fellows receive recognition and funding to be advocates of high-quality scientific software and leaders in the field. Activities can include organizing a workshop, preparing a tutorial, or creating content to engage the scientific software community. The program selects at least three Fellows per year and honorable mentions as appropriate. Each BSSw Fellow receives up to $25,000 for an activity that promotes better scientific software. The period of performance runs for approximately 13 months, from April through April of the following year. Fellows are honored at the US-RSE Annual Conference in October. The fellowship is designed to support individuals who will create publicly available artifacts that benefit the broader scientific software community. The fellowship application process requires applicants to describe their relevant experience and background, propose specific work they would undertake as a fellow, and articulate both technical and broader community impacts. Applications include a short CV or resume, descriptions of relevant work and experience, details about proposed work, and identification of applicable BSSw focus areas. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and National Science Foundation.
