About this opportunity
The Burns Lodge Legacy Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by members of Burns Lodge No. 10 (AFAM) to honour Robert Burns' legacy in Nova Scotia and to help local students pursue post-secondary education. This scholarship supports Grade 12 students who are residents of Halifax Regional Municipality planning to pursue post-secondary studies in Atlantic Canada.
Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, was born in 1759 and became a renowned lyricist whose work forever influenced Scottish literature. A Mason initiated in 1781, Burns is celebrated worldwide and was voted the Greatest Scot by the Scottish public in 2009. This fund honors his legacy in New Scotland (Nova Scotia) by supporting the educational aspirations of local students.
Applicants are evaluated based on scholastic achievement, community involvement, athletic accomplishments, and financial need. Scholarships are typically awarded annually, though the donor reserves the right to adjust the frequency based on income levels and foundation guidelines.
