About this opportunity
The Butterflies & Dreams Book Club Award is a scholarship opportunity designed to support African American graduating seniors from Manatee or Sarasota counties in Florida who are planning to attend a postsecondary institution and have been inspired by reading. This book award recognizes students who demonstrate academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a commitment to higher education.
Applicants must be graduating at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and provide evidence of acceptance at a postsecondary institution before the award is granted. The scholarship application requires submission of an official transcript, one letter of recommendation, and an essay. Recipients will be honored at the May Book Club meeting where they will be asked to share a few words about themselves.
The award is offered through the Education Foundation of Sarasota County and aims to encourage and support African American students in their pursuit of higher education, particularly those who have found inspiration through reading and literacy.
