About this opportunity
This scholarship is open to graduates of any university in New Zealand or of the University of the South Pacific, who are enrolled or intending to enrol full-time or part-time, in a Master of Criminology (MCrim) or a PhD in Criminology at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. The scholarship partly replaces the C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Sociology and Criminology at University of Canterbury, which had been established in 1985 by Dr. Charles P. Sedgwick in memory of Jean Margaretta Rhoda Morgan and Peter Warmsley Sedgwick and as a tribute to the noted American sociologist C. Wright Mills. The scholarship is tenable for one year, with tenure potentially extended for a further year based on satisfactory progress on the recipient's thesis and satisfactory contribution to the academic programme of the Institute of Criminology. Recipients must demonstrate their research interest, potential contribution to the academic discipline and the Institute of Criminology, with financial hardship also taken into consideration during selection.
