About This Opportunity

The Calgary Flames Foundation Community Involvement Scholarship is awarded to high school students who exemplify leadership through volunteer activities. Funded by Jennifer and Steve Major through proceeds of the Calgary Flames Ambassadors' Charity Poker Tournament, this scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their school and community through volunteerism. The scholarship is open to grade 12 students completing high school diploma requirements at Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District schools. Applicants must have academic requirements sufficient for entrance into their chosen program of post-secondary study. Four awards are available annually. Selection is based on demonstrated leadership and volunteerism, a 500-word essay describing how applicants have demonstrated leadership in their volunteer work and why they chose particular volunteer opportunities, and a letter of reference from a community leader or school official. Recipients must claim the award within 18 months by registering in an eligible post-secondary program of at least two years duration or a skilled trades/apprenticeship program.
