About This Opportunity

The Medical Research Council (MRC) offers capacity building clinical research training fellowships to support registered healthcare professionals who hold a PhD and wish to reacquire research skills after working outside of research for typically five or more years. The fellowship provides funding for three years (potentially up to four years for patient-oriented projects) to support a return to research and establish research momentum. Fellows receive full salary support and project costs at 80% full economic cost. The fellowship is designed for clinicians who are at an appropriate point in their clinical training and have clear plans to pursue a research career. Eligible professions include nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, pharmacists, clinical psychologists, doctors, dentists, general practitioners, and veterinarians. The research can focus on any area within MRC's remit to improve human health, spanning from basic biomedical research to translational and developmental clinical research. Fellows may spend up to two clinical sessions per week (or up to four in certain circumstances) and are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to work at a second UK or overseas organisation for up to 12 months. Joint funding opportunities are available with numerous partner organisations including royal colleges and medical charities.
