The Captain Edward M (Ted) Kates Memorial Scholarship in Criminology is awarded annually to a student in the BA (Criminology) Program who has attained the highest grade point average in the third year of study while carrying 30 units of course weight in that year. This endowed scholarship was established by Margaret and Maxwell Kates in memory of their son Captain Edward M (Ted) Kates. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence in criminology at the University of Alberta. If multiple students achieve the same highest grade point average, the scholarship money will be divided equally among recipients.
