About this opportunity
The Captain Nichola K.S. Goddard Scholarship is awarded to a student in any faculty at the University of Prince Edward Island who will engage in an experience living and working with indigenous peoples whether in Canada or internationally. The experience must be for academic credit at UPEI. Examples might include a research-based thesis or dissertation at the masters or doctoral level, or an internship or practicum at the baccalaureate level. This scholarship honors Captain Nichola Goddard, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 17, 2006. Born in Papua New Guinea to British and Canadian school teachers, Nichola spent her childhood in various Canadian locations and was a forward observation officer with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. She was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. In fond memory of Nichola's love of life and learning, family and friends established this scholarship along with other memorials to honor her legacy and commitment to serving indigenous communities around the world.
