About this opportunity
The Cara Parravani Memorial Award in Fiction is a memorial scholarship established by the family of Cara Parravani (MFA '07) to recognize excellence in fiction writing among students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The award honors the legacy of Cara Parravani, a distinguished graduate of the MFA program, and supports emerging fiction writers pursuing their studies at UMass Amherst.
Applicants are required to submit one PDF document containing up to 20 pages of unpublished fiction for consideration. All submissions must be original, unpublished work, and should not include the author's name on the document to ensure blind review. The award provides a monetary prize of $250 to recognize outstanding achievement in creative fiction writing.
This opportunity is designed for students who demonstrate exceptional skill and promise in fiction writing. If applicants are submitting to multiple awards with identical submissions, only one set of documents is required. However, if submissions vary for different awards, a cover sheet should be included listing the titles of each piece and indicating which awards each work should be considered for. The award serves to encourage and celebrate creative excellence in the literary arts at the university.
