Care Leaver Package

The Care Leaver Package provides financial support for students leaving local authority care at Sheffield Hallam University. This comprehensive support package aims to help care leavers focus on their studies without worrying about living costs and other financial burdens. The package is designed to provide stability and reassurance for students who have experienced unstable pasts, helping them transition successfully into university life and prepare for their future beyond graduation. Successful applicants receive a total of £3,600 per academic year, consisting of the maximum Student Success Scholarship award of £2,100 and an additional Care Leaver Bursary of £1,500. This combined financial support recognizes the unique challenges faced by care leavers and provides dedicated resources to help them succeed in their academic journey. Part-time students receive proportional awards based on their study intensity. The package is available to undergraduate home students aged 25 or under at enrollment who have spent three or more months in local authority care during or after year ten. Students must apply annually for the package through the Student Success Scholarship application process, with decisions typically communicated within one month of application window closure. The university also offers additional support through the SHU Progress applicant support scheme for care leavers considering or applying to Sheffield Hallam.
