About this opportunity

The Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS) is a highly competitive program that provides $700,000 awards over five years for physician-scientists who are committed to an academic career. The award is designed to bridge advanced postdoctoral/fellowship training and the early years of faculty service. Eligible candidates must hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and be committed to a career as independent investigators in basic biomedical, disease-oriented, or translational research at North American degree-granting institutions, research institutes, or teaching hospitals. The program supports candidates with at least one first-author publication, requires 75% protected research time, and excludes those who hold or have accepted tenure-track faculty appointments or NIH K99/R00 or Early Independence (DP5) awards. The award is portable, allowing awardees to transfer institutions when transitioning to faculty positions with BWF approval.
