About this opportunity
The Great Smoky Mountains Conservation Association offers the Carlos C. Campbell Memorial Fellowship to support research in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The fellowship has no limitation on subject matter, other than requiring studies be directly related to the Park. Results of any proposed research are intended to help the natural and human history of the Park or to improve the management of the Park's natural and cultural resources.
A special emphasis is placed on projects that demonstrate an applied research approach and produce lasting results for conservation of the Park's resources. Awards may be extended for a longer period if justifiable, and special grants may also be made for unusual needs.
Recipients of the awards are selected by the Executive Committee of the Association, with awards granted in January of each year. The fellowship is named after Carlos Clinton Campbell (1892-1978), a prominent figure in the history of Great Smoky Mountains National Park who served as Secretary of the Great Smoky Mountains Conservation Association from 1940 until his death in 1978.
