About this opportunity
The Cary James and Anne Witheford Back of Orchestra Scholarship is designed to support undergraduate students studying 'back of orchestra' instruments at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. Established in 2021, the scholarship is funded from a gift from the Cary James and Anne Witheford Foundation.
The scholarship is awarded as either a merit or equity-based scholarship. For merit-based awards, students are automatically considered as part of their admission application to the Conservatorium. For equity scholarships, students can apply through a separate application process when applications are open, typically in February for Semester 1 and potentially August for Semester 2, subject to available funding.
The scholarship value and duration are determined by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and will be stipulated in the scholarship offer letter to successful recipients. Recipients must maintain a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship. The scholarship is paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester and cannot be deferred or suspended.
