About this opportunity

Established in memory of Dr. Charles A. Peters, Class of 1897, by the College Shakespearean Club to encourage and aid students with high academic standing at the Amherst Campus of the University of Massachusetts in the undergraduate and graduate level who are specializing in Shakespeare or his contemporaries in the Elizabethan Period (1558-1603). The prize is awarded to the best essay on English literature written between 1558 and 1625. Essay must be at least 2,500 words long and must have originated from courses taken in the English department from the current or prior two semesters. This competitive prize recognizes outstanding scholarly work in Renaissance literature and encourages deep engagement with the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
