About This Opportunity

This scholarship is awarded to students whose parent or guardian died in the line of duty while serving as a public safety officer. Public safety officers include police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, or other individuals who qualify for Public Safety Officers Benefits (PSOB). The scholarship does not include children of active duty military members who died in the line of duty. To qualify, students must be Pell-eligible with a Pell-eligible estimated family contribution (EFC), and be less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of their parent's or guardian's death. In subsequent award years, the student continues to be eligible as long as they maintain a Pell-eligible EFC and remain an eligible student. All Title IV aid awarded to eligible students is based on an EFC of zero without regard to the student's calculated EFC, making the student eligible for the maximum Federal Pell Grant for their enrollment status and cost of attendance. Additionally, eligibility for Direct Loans and Campus-Based program aid is based on an EFC of zero.
