About this opportunity
The Christine Burdett Scholarship in Music is awarded to a full-time student entering third year of the UPEI Music Program who has demonstrated growth and development of musicianship in the previous year and has been recommended by the chair. This scholarship was established by David and Laurie Gauthier in memory of Laurie's mother, Christine Burdett, who graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1946 and from Mount Allison University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts. Mrs. Burdett, lovingly known as Chris, shared her love and knowledge of music as a teacher in rural schools in the Cavendish area, as a choir director of the Cavendish United Church for over 40 years, and as a director of the Men's Masonic Choir. She continued her involvement with several music groups after moving to Charlottetown in 1998 and was a faithful visitor to many nursing homes, bringing joy to residents through her cheerful manner and frequently playing for church services and other events. Her daughter Laurie and son-in-law David established this scholarship to memorialize Christine Burdett's passion for music and to encourage, support, and recognize students of the Music Program at UPEI.
