Christopher E. Lewis Scholarship

The Christopher E. Lewis Scholarship is awarded to a student who is entering their first year of study at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) and intends to pursue a career in small animal veterinary medicine. Preference will be given to students from Newfoundland and Labrador. This scholarship was established in honour of the late Christopher E. Lewis by his wife, Sheila Lewis. Chris was a partner with the law firm Stewart McKelvey in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and his passion for the practice of law equalled his passion and love for his dogs. Both Chris and Sheila were founders of the Beagle Paws Rescue charity, which was established in St. John's in 2003. Their volunteer involvement in animal rescue resulted in a deep appreciation and understanding of the importance of veterinary medicine. Sheila created this annual award for veterinary students as a tribute to her husband and his love of beagles.
