About This Opportunity

The $1,000 College JumpStart Show Grit Scholarship rewards students who demonstrate grit and who continue to push themselves in spite of obstacles or challenges. Attending college is not an easy feat and takes years of commitment to achieve. This scholarship provides an opportunity for students to share their experiences with challenges they have faced and how they've demonstrated perseverance to get to where they are. Applicants must submit a personal statement of 250 words or less answering one of three prompts: (1) What is a challenge or setback you have faced and what did you learn from the experience? (2) Write about a time when 'hard work' paid off, or (3) Write about the topic of your choice. The personal statement is judged on content rather than writing style, with emphasis on substance. Eligibility requirements include being a current high school student (grades 10-12) or college student, or planning to enter college within the next 12 months. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents. Financial need is not considered, nor are grades or test scores. The scholarship is designed to recognize and support students who have demonstrated resilience and determination in pursuing their educational goals. The application is completed entirely online and includes the personal statement as the primary component. Winners are announced publicly on the program's website.
