About this opportunity
The Community Grants scheme offers funding to community groups to run science-related events and activities during British Science Week. Supported by UK Research and Innovation, this grant programme aims to engage audiences who are traditionally underrepresented in science, helping to expand participation and enjoyment of science among diverse communities. The scheme provides funding specifically for community groups working directly with underrepresented audiences including people from ethnic minority backgrounds, those facing educational or income deprivation, people with disabilities or long-term health conditions, people in remote and rural locations (settlements under 10,000 people), and girls and women. The grants enable community organisations to create tailor-made science activities that are specifically designed for their audiences. For British Science Week 2026, community groups can apply for grants of up to £600 to run one or more events during the ten-day British Science Week celebration. The programme prioritises groups working with girls and women who also serve at least one other underrepresented group. Schools and colleges are not eligible for this scheme but can apply to the separate Kick Start Grants programme instead.
