Commuter Bursary

The Commuter Bursary is a financial support program offered by the University of Greenwich to assist students from low-income households who face challenging travel costs to attend university. The bursaries are worth 50% of monthly commuting costs between home and university, up to £1,000 per academic year. The program primarily supports public transport costs but can also consider petrol costs for students in rural areas with limited public transport access. Additionally, the bursary supports cycling by funding bicycle purchases and safety equipment. The commuter bursary is funded by the university's Hardship Fund and offers a capped number of awards distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. To qualify, students must be fully registered paying the home tuition fee rate, studying at one of the Greenwich campuses (Greenwich, Avery Hill, or Medway), demonstrate regular commuting costs, have a household income below £25,000, and meet specific loan requirements based on their study level. All funding for the 2025/26 academic year has been allocated, with applications for 2026/27 opening at the end of October 2026.
