Conference Support Grants

The Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust provides grants to support scientific conferences in health-related fields organized by academic institutions or professional organizations within New Zealand. Priority is given to conferences with an emphasis on research and research training. These grants are intended to support the hosting of conferences, not personal travel to attend conferences. Applications must come from senior officials such as heads of academic departments with approval from the hosting institution. The Trust aims to encourage the development of health-related research in New Zealand through this conference support funding mechanism. Applications should include details of the conference and its significance in a New Zealand context, a breakdown of expected budget and an explanation of the sum requested, evidence of approval by the host institution, acknowledgement that the Trust Board's decision will be final, and a proposed method of acknowledging the Trust's sponsorship. Recipients are asked to provide a brief report after the conference and a copy of any published proceedings. Funding decisions are made by the Trust Board at three meetings per year (April, July, and November), with applications due approximately eight weeks before each meeting. Decisions are typically made four to eight weeks after each funding round closes. University applicants should notify their Research Office at least 10 business days before application deadlines.
