About this opportunity
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers scholarship programmes for prospective PhD candidates through the CSC General Channel. Outstanding Chinese master's students, recent graduates and young academic professionals are eligible to pursue a PhD degree at Leiden University (including the Leiden University Medical Centre). The scholarship is funded by CSC and provides living allowance (including health insurance) and return ticket from China to the Netherlands for a maximum duration of 48 months. All fields of research at Leiden University are eligible for funding, with priority given to Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Archaeology, Humanities, Science, and Medicine. Scholarship awardees are required to return to China upon completion of their PhD programme.

Review process
Applicants must first find a PhD position and supervisor at Leiden University. The supervisor nominates the candidate to the Graduate School for admission. After admission, the supervisor provides an acceptance letter, and the candidate applies to CSC via their online portal.
