Damon Runyon Scholars Program for Advancing Research and Knowledge (SPARK)

The Damon Runyon SPARK program is a one-year post-baccalaureate research fellowship designed to encourage and train exceptional college seniors and recent graduates who have had limited opportunities to participate in research. The program aims to provide talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially those underrepresented in sciences, with the opportunity to develop rigorous research skills by working in a Damon Runyon scientist's research lab. SPARK Scholars receive comprehensive training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to prepare them for competitive graduate or medical school programs and future careers in biomedical research. The program includes participation in the Damon Runyon Fellows' Retreat, quarterly virtual scientific communication series, and access to a network of leading cancer researchers. The goal is to identify outstanding scholars committed to inclusive initiatives who have the potential to become scientific leaders and contribute to high-risk, high-reward cancer research. This year-long internship provides full financial support including stipend, living allowance, and travel funding while scholars are embedded in host labs at partnering academic institutions across the United States.
