About This Opportunity

The David Brundell Master's Scholarship supports domestic students enrolled in the Master of Horticulture at Massey University who are undertaking research in either flower, fruit, vegetables, or crops for human consumption. The scholarship honors David Brundell, who completed his Bachelor and Master of Horticulture degrees at Massey University in the 1970s, with his master's thesis focusing on flower development of the kiwifruit. Throughout his life, David was an avid plant and crop collector, developer, producer, and trader with a lifelong interest in the commercial production of a wide variety of food, medicinal, and energy crops as well as in gardens and design, all within an ecologically sustainable context. The scholarship provides financial support of up to $25,000 per annum for full-time students and is prorated for part-time students up to $12,500 per year, should funds permit. The tenure is 1.5 years for full-time students and is adjusted for part-time students. Applicants may apply at any stage of the Master of Horticulture degree, whether in the coursework or research stage. Two awards are available annually. Eligible applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents enrolled or intending to enroll in a master's degree at Massey University. The scholarship is specifically designed for students undertaking or intending to undertake research focused on horticulture related to flower, fruit, vegetables, or crops for human consumption. Selection is based on the applicant's intended research and career aspirations, and applicants must submit a brief research proposal and a 200-word statement on their career aspirations.
