About This Opportunity

The David Ensor Postgraduate Scholarship is available to entrant postgraduate research students from any country studying for a PhD in the Faculty of Science at the University of St Andrews, with a preference for Mathematics. This scholarship is established by a bequest from the estate of Mr David Ensor, BSc 1965, and selection is based partly on financial need as well as academic merit. The scholarship provides an annual stipend paid at a rate set by the University of St Andrews. For 2025-2026, the stipend is £19,775 per annum, with an annual uplift published by the University each academic year. The stipend will be paid pro-rata to part-time students. The award duration is up to 3.5 years of postgraduate study, supporting doctoral research in science disciplines including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography and Sustainable Development, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics and Astronomy, and Psychology and Neuroscience.
