David R. Layman Scholarship (Secondary Education)

The David R. Layman Scholarship supports students majoring in biology who express an intention to enter the teaching profession. This scholarship is specifically designed to encourage and assist future biology teachers in pursuing their educational goals at Northern Illinois University. Preference is given to graduates of Chicago public high schools, with special consideration for students from Carl Schurz High School and Richard T. Crane High School. The scholarship aims to support the development of outstanding high school biology teachers who will make meaningful contributions to secondary education.
