About this opportunity

The David W. Rodd Scholarship in Tourism & Hospitality is awarded to a student entering the Bachelor of Business in Tourism & Hospitality at UPEI who performed well academically in the two years of the program at Holland College and shows combined qualities of leadership, contribution to the community, and demonstrates a desire to enhance the tourism and hospitality industry. This scholarship honors David W. Rodd, who was born in 1940 and assisted his parents in the operation of the family tourist business they started from two cabins in Winsloe, PEI in 1935. After graduating from Mount Allison University in 1962 with a BA, he returned to the family business in 1966, and today Rodd's is the largest family-owned hotel chain in Atlantic Canada. David Rodd has dedicated much of his life to being a leader in the development of the hospitality industry in PEI and throughout Atlantic Canada, with peak season operations employing 1,000 people at 11 properties. He has been active in community life and the tourism industry, serving in various leadership roles and was conferred with an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Laws, by the University of Prince Edward Island.
