About this opportunity

The DBH Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship established in 1983 by Dr Robin J. Helby in memory of his mother. The scholarship rotates annually among three different fields: support for German nationals to undertake postgraduate research in any field, research in geology and geophysics, and research into the social effects of alcoholism. Only one award in one of the specific fields is available at any one time. The scholarship provides an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the Research Training Program (RTP) stipend rate for up to two years for master's by research recipients and up to three years for PhD recipients, subject to satisfactory academic performance. PhD recipients may apply for an extension of up to six months. Additional benefits include relocation allowances and thesis allowances. In 2020, the scholarship was offered specifically for German nationals. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission or be enrolled full-time in a master's by research or PhD program at the University of Sydney. They must have completed an honours degree (first class or second class upper), a master's degree in a related field with substantial research component, or an equivalent qualification. Selection is based on academic merit, area of study and research proposal, curriculum vitae, and two academic references.
