About this opportunity
The Deaf Studies Award is available to permanent residents of New Zealand who have been accepted for the Certificate in Deaf Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. The award provides $6,000 over two years ($3,000 per year) to support fluent NZSL users to gain a qualification in teaching NZSL. This scholarship was gifted by Sir Roy McKenzie when the 'Certificate in Deaf Studies: Teaching NZSL' was established in 1997. Selection is based on the candidate's potential to succeed in the programme, commitment to working in the field of teaching NZSL or Deaf community development, and level of financial need where relevant. Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and submit annual progress reports.
