This funding opportunity from the Research Council of Norway supports research on how democracies nationally and globally are changing, and how they can be strengthened and further developed. The funding aims to provide new insights into democracy as a form of government and way of life, explore how democratic values can be protected and developed, and strengthen understanding of democratic processes and societal development both nationally and globally. Research is needed that provides new knowledge and perspectives on what hinders and promotes democracy, and how democratic values can be protected and developed nationally and internationally. The call is open to all disciplines and methodological approaches, with particular interest in historical, cultural, ethical and normative perspectives in democracy research, in addition to research on regulation, administration and governance. All thematic areas can be applied at local, national and international levels and must be relevant to Norwegian conditions and/or conditions in low and lower-middle income countries (LLMIC), including India and Ukraine.
