About This Opportunity
The Dhariwal Family Bursary honors Mr. Amrik Singh Dhariwal and Mrs. Sowaran Kaur Dhariwal for their lifelong dedication to helping others. Originally from India, the Dhariwal family immigrated to the UK in the 1950s and later to Canada in the late 1970s, where they became Canadian citizens. Throughout their lives, they helped hundreds of newly arrived immigrants, often welcoming strangers into their home. The bursary recognizes the Dhariwal family's spirit of caring for others and their commitment to education and community service. Both Amrik and Sowaran encouraged their children to study and work hard, leading both children, Mave and Kewal, to become instructors at NAIT in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Systems respectively. The entire Dhariwal family has supported various religious and cultural associations, professional societies, political organizations, coaching sports, volunteering, mentorship, and fundraising for senior's societies. This bursary is available to full-time credit program students at NAIT and is awarded based on satisfactory academic achievement, demonstrated financial need, and evidence of caring for others through volunteer activities, mentorship, or community service. Preference may be given to international students, newly immigrated students, or student athletes.
