Discretionary Fund

The Discretionary Fund is a support fund provided by the UK government to assist undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of St Andrews who are experiencing financial difficulties. Student Services prioritizes certain groups including students with at least one dependent child, care-experienced students, estranged students, students who are carers, and students with extra costs due to health and disability. The fund also supports students who can demonstrate to a Student Services Adviser that their essential expenditure exceeds their income. Students may apply more than once during the academic year for assistance with expenses such as rent, tuition, childcare, and living costs. The fund is means-tested and requires comprehensive documentation of financial need. Awards are made at the discretion of Student Services advisers following review of applications and potentially an interview.
