About this opportunity
The Distinguished Article Award is presented by the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion (SSSR) to recognize the most outstanding article published by a SSSR member or members within the previous calendar year according to the citation date. The award is designed to honor excellence in scholarship that advances the scientific study of religion.
Any article involving some aspect of the scientific study of religion is eligible for consideration. Articles may be nominated by the editor of the journal in which they appeared, by the author(s), or by any other SSSR member who deems the work to be of outstanding quality. The committee evaluates each submission based on quality of scholarship, importance to the field, and relevance to the larger society.
The award is presented at the annual meeting and includes both a commemorative plaque and a cash prize of $1,000. Individual submissions are limited to no more than one solo-authored article and one multi-authored article on which the same person is lead author. Only articles published in peer-reviewed journals are considered; submissions published solely in edited volumes are not eligible.
