About This Opportunity
The Dr. John D. Barrie Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving second- or third-year student in Veterinary Medicine intending to pursue a career in either wildlife medicine or aquaculture. Dr. John Barrie was originally from Ontario and attended the Atlantic Veterinary College, graduating in the first class (AVC 1990). He was keenly interested in wildlife, aquaculture, and outdoor activities. He drowned in a kayaking accident in 1991. His family and friends established this memorial scholarship in 1992, and it is presented annually at the fall AVC Recognition Night. The scholarship recognizes students who share Dr. Barrie's passion for wildlife and aquatic animal health and encourages the next generation of veterinarians pursuing these specialized fields.
