About this opportunity

This scholarship supports an outstanding Doctor of Veterinary Medicine first-year student in the Sydney School of Veterinary Science with a commitment to animal welfare. The Scholarship was established in 2014 in memory of Dr John Holt, a pre-eminent veterinarian, widely respected in Australia and internationally, who was renowned for his passionate commitment to animal welfare. Dr Holt was much loved for his honesty, humility and the encouragement he gave to others, and was a mentor to generations of veterinarians, including eight university professors. The Scholarship is for the support of an outstanding student enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program with the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney, who is committed to animal welfare. Recipients are selected based on academic merit, a commitment statement detailing a vision for animal welfare both in Australia and globally, and a personal statement demonstrating leadership and involvement in animal welfare issues.
