About this opportunity
The Dr. Julian Jaynes Undergraduate Award is provided to students who have been accepted into the Major program in Psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island. Recipients must be full-time or part-time students who have the best overall academic record prior to being accepted as a Psychology Major and who are not already receiving a major scholarship. The award honors Dr. Julian Jaynes, who was a renowned psychologist and professor at Princeton University. Dr. Jaynes was best known for his provocative 1976 book, 'The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind,' which was a nominee for the National Book Award in 1978. His work spanned psychology, anthropology, history, philosophy, religion, and literary studies. Dr. Jaynes spent many summers at his family home, Bayfield House in Keppoch, PEI, where he passed away in 1997. This award recognizes outstanding academic achievement among psychology students entering the major program.
