About this opportunity
The Dr Lawrence F Smith Scholarship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students is a $6,000 scholarship established in 2016 to provide financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying dentistry at the University of Sydney. The scholarship has been generously donated by Dr Lawrence F Smith and supports students enrolled in the Doctor of Dental Medicine or Bachelor of Oral Health programs.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, evidence of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, demonstration of financial need, and a personal statement. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment in one of the eligible programs and achieve a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship.
The scholarship value of $6,000 is paid in two equal installments after the census date of each semester over one year. It is available to students who have an unconditional admission offer or are currently enrolled full-time in the designated dentistry programs. The scholarship cannot be deferred, suspended, or transferred to another school, faculty, or university.
The scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Dental School, or their nominated delegate, and is offered subject to the availability of funds. Applications are accepted annually with specific opening and closing dates, and applicants must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander as per University of Sydney's Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
