About This Opportunity

Awarded to a graduating Chemistry Major/Honours student with high academic standing who has excelled in the senior Major/Honours research project and who has been accepted to study in either a Master's program; a program at AVC; or in medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy. Special consideration is given to students who are known to be the 'first in family' to graduate from university. The recipient is selected based on recommendation from the Dean of Science. This scholarship was established by Sue Loucks and family in fond memory of Dr. Leon Loucks (1939-2002), UPEI Professor of Chemistry who was a major driving force in the establishment of a strong Chemistry Department at UPEI. Throughout his career he set a very high standard for teaching and encouraging students, which was recognized through teaching awards including the UPEI Excellence in Teaching Award (1989). He conducted meticulous research and served as respected mentor to colleagues.
