About this opportunity
The Dr. Margaret F. Munro Award for Nursing Leadership is awarded annually to a fourth-year nursing student at the University of Prince Edward Island who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities. The recipient is chosen by their classmates and recommended to the faculty, recognizing peer-acknowledged excellence in nursing leadership. This award was established by Dr. Margaret F. Munro, who was central to the creation of the UPEI School of Nursing beginning in 1990. Dr. Munro was the Founding Dean of the school from 1991 to 1997 and developed Canada's first nursing curriculum based directly on the principles of primary health care. The award reflects Dr. Munro's commitment to preparing graduates to practice nursing from primary health care principles and to give leadership through their professional nursing practice. In 2016, Dr. Munro made a generous decision to fully endow all of her six awards at UPEI, ensuring ongoing support for nursing students who demonstrate leadership potential.
