About this opportunity
The Dr. Margaret F. Munro Graduation Award in Nursing (Accelerated) is awarded to the student with the highest academic standing upon completion of the UPEI Accelerated Nursing Program. These annual awards and scholarships were established by Dr. Margaret F. Munro, who was central to the creation of the UPEI School of Nursing beginning in 1990 when she was seconded from the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary to develop the nursing program at the University of Prince Edward Island. In 1991, Dr. Munro was invited to become the Founding Dean of the new UPEI School of Nursing and remained in that position until July 1997 when she retired. The curriculum of this school was the first in Canada to be developed based directly on the principals of primary health care. From its inception in 1992, the UPEI School of Nursing has maintained the goal of preparing graduates to practice nursing from those principals and also to give leadership in primary health care through their own professional nursing practice. In 2016, Dr. Munro made a very generous decision to fully endow all of her six awards at UPEI.
