About this opportunity
Awarded to a student in the Master of Arts in Island Studies program, with preference given to a student whose work focuses mainly on energy and environment, and/or sustainability as it relates to small islands. Preference will be given to students in the thesis-based Master of Arts, Island Studies program. This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Peter Meincke, who came to PEI in 1978 to become the second President of the University of Prince Edward Island and was involved with the pioneering work of the Institute of Man and Resources. He helped to found the Institute for Island Studies, the first institute at UPEI. Dr. Meincke taught mathematics and physics including a course on Energy Environment and the Economy and designed a course called Technological Innovation for Sustainable Development. His conviction that small islands have an important role in finding the best road to sustainable development led to the establishment of this scholarship to support Master of Arts in Island Studies graduate students in their pursuit of island studies.
