About this opportunity
The Dr. Rowland Smith Memorial Scholarship is offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary. The scholarship honors Dr. Rowland Smith, who was Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and a Rhodes Scholar from South Africa who came to Canada in the 1960s. He had a lifelong interest in languages and cultures and believed passionately in the value of experiencing other cultures.
The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, with preference given to students who are members of the Arts and Sciences Honours Academy and who intend to complete a Study Abroad program in the upcoming year. This award reflects Dr. Smith's commitment to international education and cultural exchange.
The scholarship is funded by the Faculty of Humanities, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Rowland Smith. It provides up to $2,000 to support one continuing undergraduate student annually who demonstrates strong academic performance and a commitment to international learning experiences.
