About this opportunity
The Dr Sam Nelson Undergraduate Scholarship in Geology is awarded annually to an undergraduate student with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of studies in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, majoring in Geology. The scholarship is funded through an endowment by the family and friends of Dr Sam Nelson, who taught Stratigraphy in the Department of Geology from 1954 to 1966.
Recipients are selected on the basis of academic standing. Preference may be given to students who are involved in extracurricular activities, such as athletics, music, student government, or volunteering. Students who are already in receipt of a major award may have lower priority for this scholarship.
This scholarship is administered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta and is available to continuing students within the Faculty of Science. Students are automatically considered for this award based on their completed General Application.
