About This Opportunity

The Dr. Satadal Dasgupta Memorial Award is granted to an exceptional student of sociology or anthropology graduating from UPEI who, in his or her time at the institution, displayed academic excellence as well as contributed to the university community through volunteer, extra-curricular or other activities. If there are two or more equally qualifying candidates, preference will be given to a student who will be pursuing continued studies in the field of sociology or anthropology or pursuing continued studies in another field. This award was established in honour of Dr. Dasgupta's life and his love for the University of Prince Edward Island and its students. Dr. Dasgupta was one of the early professors of UPEI, joining the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in 1969 and contributing immensely to shaping the institution through teaching, mentoring thousands of students, serving as department chair, recruiting faculty, constructing programs, and providing excellent scholarship over nearly 50 years. His prolific research led to several publications, including nine books in the field of social anthropology.
