About this opportunity
This award provides field research support for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The scholarship honors former Geosciences Associate Professor, Dr. Thomas S. Hooyer, who served the department from 2009 to 2014. The award is intended to be used to defray the cost of field research and related travel expenses.
The scholarship is available to students demonstrating academic merit who hold sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student standing and are majoring or intending to major in Geosciences. Students must be participating in a field research project, with a preference given to students whose research is focused on the Quaternary period.
Applications are typically accepted in January with awards paid the following summer or fall, unless a student is graduating in May. Recipients chosen in February will generally receive payment in summer or fall. There is a single common application for geosciences students to complete in order to be considered for all geosciences scholarships and awards.
