About this opportunity

This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. U.R. Plante, who practiced medicine in Massena, New York from 1916 to 1972. The scholarship honors his legacy of compassionate rural medicine by supporting students attending medical school who are committed to serving rural or underserved communities. The scholarship is awarded annually to medical students who are residents of the Adirondack Park, St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, Essex, or Hamilton County of New York State, or who have lived in one of these counties for at least two years. Recipients must be willing to return to these areas or to a remote part of the US where doctors are needed to practice medicine. Applicants must be accepted by an accredited medical school in the US or Canada for an MD or DO program. Students in OB, PA, PT, OT, or nursing programs are not eligible to apply. The scholarship amount is up to $10,000.
