About this opportunity
The Dr. Vera Elizabeth Dewar Graduate Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a graduate of the UPEI Faculty of Nursing who is pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing, with preference given to PhD Nursing candidates. This graduate nursing scholarship was established by Dr. Vera Elizabeth Dewar at the University of Prince Edward Island to honor her legacy in nursing education and her commitment to excellence in the field. Dr. Dewar, affectionately known as Miss Dewar, dedicated over four decades to nursing education on Prince Edward Island, holding positions from clinical instructor to Assistant Director of Administration at the PEI School of Nursing until its closure in 1994. Her impressive career exemplified leadership in nursing education, impacting hundreds of students and nursing colleagues both on the island and worldwide. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Dewar was deeply involved in cultural preservation on PEI, including compiling the manuscript for 'Perthshire to Three Rivers,' which documents over 14,000 descendants of the Brudenell River area. The scholarship reflects her dedication to nursing excellence, mentorship, and the advancement of graduate nursing education.
